Academic mobility

Central Ukrainian National Technical University is actively developing opportunities for international academic mobility. In particular, during 2023, Olena Babak, a master's student at the Department of Economics, Management, and Commercial Activity, participated on a competitive basis in the Cumorah Academy program in the Czech Republic, where, together with active young people from over ten countries, she studied business, entrepreneurship, and marketing. A separate part of this program included attending lectures on leadership, public speaking, soft skills, negotiations, and self-presentation.

In the fall of 2023, four students from the Faculty of Economics of CUNTU participated in a hybrid academic mobility program at Mendel University in Brno (Czech Republic) under the "Digital Leadership and Strategy" program.

Visits by foreign experts

Every year, Central Ukrainian National Technical University hosts a significant number of foreign delegations and international experts.

Since 2007, the university has hosted 70 international partners who participated in negotiations on cooperation within the framework of joint agreements and international projects of CUNTU, conducted presentations of international programs, taught at the university's faculties, and more.

Inviting foreign colleagues to conduct presentations on international programs for faculty and students is a long-standing tradition at Kirovohrad National Technical University.

Meetings between faculty and students of the Central Ukrainian National Technical University and young German and Polish activists took place as part of the "Europe in a Suitcase" project. For several years in a row, representatives of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Robert Bosch Foundation, the European Academy of Berlin, and the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation, in cooperation with the Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation, have been informing students about available educational and cultural programs in Europe.

As part of an information and outreach campaign on international cooperation, a group of experienced experts from the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Poland, and Ukraine conducted seminars dedicated to international education and programs for study and internships for Ukrainian youth abroad. The German-Polish-Ukrainian delegation included: Veronika Priesmeier-Tkocz (Program Director of the European Academy of Berlin, FRG), Hannes Adomeit (Professor at the College of Europe, FRG), Marek Peda (political scientist at the University of Warsaw, Republic of Poland), Michał Matejka (Deputy Chairman of the Warsaw District Council, Republic of Poland), and Jakov Devčić (Master of International Relations and European Studies at Andrássy University Budapest, who completed internships at the European Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg). The internship and study abroad projects presented, created with the support of the European Union, aim to provide young people with opportunities to identify and develop personal and professional qualities at the European and international levels, as well as to engage youth in activities that promote the development of international education, international friendship, and understanding. These programs provide a unique opportunity to improve or acquire skills important for personal, educational, and professional development through non-formal learning. In this context, a "Euroclub" was established at CUNTU, which is now quite widespread and popular in many educational institutions in Ukraine.

As part of the annual Science Day at CUNTU, the Department of Humanities and Documentation (now the Department of Social Sciences, Information and Archival Studies), headed by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Vasyl Orlyk, invited Professor Krzysztof Filipow from the University of Bialystok (Republic of Poland) to an international scientific conference. Mr. Filipow held a working meeting with the university administration, where options for creative cooperation and the exchange of faculty, students, and postgraduate students between CUNTU and the University of Bialystok were discussed.

At the invitation of the Department of International Economics, Professor François Pigalle, Head of the Department of International Trade and Finance at the University of Limoges (France), visited CUNTU.

In this context, at CNTU a «Euroclub» has been established, which today is fairly widespread and popular in many educational institutions of Ukraine.

As part of CNTU's annual Science Day, the Department of Humanities and Documentation Studies (now – Social Sciences, Information and Archival Affairs), headed by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Vasyl Orlyk, invited to an international scientific conference Professor Krzysztof Filipek from the State University in the city of Białystok (Republic of Poland). Mr. Filipek held a working meeting with the university leadership, where options for creative cooperation and exchanges of teachers, students, and postgraduate students between CNTU and the University of Białystok were discussed.

By invitation of CNTU's Department of International Economics, the head of the Department of «International Trade and Finance» at the University of Limoges (France), Professor François Pigal, visited CNTU.

Thanks to many years of cooperation between these departments of KNTU and the University of Limoges, more than two dozen students, after receiving their bachelor's degrees, were able to successfully defend their theses and obtain French master's degrees in international trade and finance.

During his visit to CNTU, François Pigalle took part in the International Student Scientific and Practical Conference organized by the Department of International Economics. The professor expressed his gratitude to the department's teaching staff for training highly qualified specialists in the field of economics.

In an interview for the "Grechka" information portal, Yaroslav shared his impressions of participating in the international symposium.

Business trips for faculty and staff

In 2014, Kirovohrad National Technical University joined the ranks of leading Ukrainian higher education institutions planning to implement a dual degree program in cooperation with the Central European University in the city of Skalica (Slovakia). Graduates of the program will be able to receive two higher education diplomas: one of European and one of Ukrainian standard. And there is no need to go abroad for a long period to do so.

The Central European University in Skalica (SEVS, Stredoeuropska vysoka skola v Skalici) engages in international cooperation with universities in several dozen countries around the world and has 12 of its own representative offices in cities such as Oxford (England), Košice (Slovakia), Vilnius (Lithuania), Prague (Czech Republic), and others. Recently, the CEU has concluded agreements on dual degree programs for students with the Odessa National Polytechnic University, the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, the Kyiv International University, and the Poltava State Agrarian Academy.

Faculty and staff business trips

In 2014, Kirovohrad National Technical University joined the ranks of leading Ukrainian universities that planned to implement the parallel-learning project together with the Central European University in Skalica (Slovakia). Graduates of the program will be able to obtain two higher-education diplomas: European-style and Ukrainian-style. And for this, there is no need to travel abroad for an extended period.

Central European University in Skalica (SEVS, Stredoeuropska vysoka skola v Skalici) conducts international cooperation with universities in dozens of countries around the world, has 12 own representations in such cities as: Oxford (England), Košice (Slovakia), Vilnius (Lithuania), Prague (Czech Republic) and others. Recently CEUS concluded agreements on parallel student education with the Odesa National Polytechnic University, National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute", Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, Kyiv International University, Poltava State Agricultural Academy.

Since one of the key areas of study at CEUR is ecology, the Slovaks proposed a joint project to the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection of our university. According to the head of the department, Candidate of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Olga Medvedeva, the curricula of the Central Ukrainian and Slovak universities were coordinated for two months, after which an inter-university cooperation agreement was signed during an international scientific conference in the city of Košice.

While studying directly in Kropyvnytskyi, our students will have the opportunity to simultaneously enroll in CEUR for a bachelor's degree in "Ecology, Environmental Protection and Rational Use of Natural Resources" or for a master's degree in "Management of Rational Nature Management, Ecology and Environmental Protection." One of the fundamental conditions for parallel admission to the Slovak university is a sufficient level of English proficiency. For undergraduate studies, the level is B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and for master's studies, the level is B2, respectively.

Studies under the agreed programs will take place partly at the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection of KNTU, and partly using distance learning methods. CEUR students receive personal passwords and access keys to the materials of the electronic database of scientific and methodological literature of the Slovak university, and will also be able to work with the electronic libraries of all higher education institutions with which CEUR has signed cooperation agreements.

At the conference, the Slovaks gave a typical example of conducting distance learning classes: a professor from Oxford simultaneously gave a lecture to students in Skalica and Košice, who were in classrooms equipped with multimedia equipment.

However, to obtain a European diploma, it is necessary to pass state exams and defend a final (for bachelors) or master's thesis in Slovakia.

Not only graduates of the Department of Ecology and not only students of CNTU will have the opportunity to study for a master's degree under the "double degree" program. It will be possible to enter the master's program after obtaining a "bachelor's" degree in technical, natural, or economic specialties. Therefore, this project will interest CNTU bachelors in agricultural and agronomic fields of study, as well as students of natural sciences (chemistry, biology, geography) from other higher education institutions in the city. As the cooperation has shown, the Slovaks are set on a wide representation of their educational institution in our country, and within this structure, CNTU has a great chance to become the base partner university in the Central Ukrainian region.

The duration of study at CEUR is three years for a bachelor's degree and/or two years for a master's degree. Importantly, during their master's studies at the Central European University in Skalica, students take English proficiency tests with the subsequent receipt of international certificates, such as ESOL, TOEFL, etc. While studying in parallel at CEUR, our students will have the opportunity to participate in academic mobility programs (student exchanges) and undergo internships and training abroad.

Thus this project will interest CNTU bachelor's graduates in agricultural and agronomic fields of study, as well as students in natural science fields (chemistry, biology, geography) from other higher education institutions in the city. As the cooperation has shown, Slovaks are inclined to broad representation of their educational institution in our country, and within this framework CNTU has great chances to become a base partner university in the Central Ukrainian region.

One of the ways to increase the level of academic mobility in a higher education institution is to encourage students to participate in international academic exchange programs, a considerable number of which are offered annually by the International Relations Department of KNTU.

Participation in such programs for a student is not only an opportunity to study in their specialty, conduct research, or complete an internship at foreign universities, but also a great chance to improve their foreign language skills, attend lecture courses by leading foreign specialists, work in libraries and archives, and, ultimately, establish contacts with young people from different countries and get acquainted with world history and culture.
